all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge

All is not a vague statement. It doesn’t mean some, or many of most or lots, but all. Everything, it’s entirety, all. So, wherever you go, the treasures of wisdom can only be found in one place. There is no where else to search and find treasures of wisdom and knowledge. But we do go looking in other places, we search high and low and only when have exhausted all possibilities do we try and find our wisdom in him. And then when we come to Him we say ‘why didn’t I come sooner’, for in his light we see

The mystery of God

Paul’s purpose was that the Colossians would know the mystery of God, namely, Christ Jesus, in whom are hidden all wisdom and knowledge. Col 2:2-3 We search for meaning in all that we do, our lives are marked with the quest to find meaning, the quest for God, which we know deep down is the answer. We search for Him in our innermost being, trying to separate ourselves from the pain to find inner peace. We look for Him in the mall, at the football match, in our online community; where we can be someone else for a moment, a

Take nothing for the journey

Take nothing for the journey, He has the provision that you need. Taking our own supplies causes us to rely on our strength, when actually there is greater supply in Him. How I long to be in a place of greater trust that I don’t need to add my own strength, add my own spin, taking along my man made provision, when His provision is enough. The root issue is trust, oh God help my soul to trust you more, to rely on you for what I need. Jesus asks his disciple not to take specific things when he sends

The day of long shadows

When the light is bright The contrast clear The chill in the air It’s that time of year When days are short Nights are long But this is no tie to mourn For this is the hour This is the moment For the giants to stand Taller than before This is the day of long shadows Taller in the light of the sun Touching heights you never dreamed of Reaching out for that which is beyond This is the day So stand tall In the day of long shadows In the moment In the hour Stand tall and don’t shrink

My one thing

I want to drink from you, and know your love more than any other. I look to you, you are my rock, the one who holds me still in the storm, who holds me near. You steady my mind when I feel that all is fading. You are faithful to the end, when I am down you pick me up, when I am dry you fill my cup, you will not my stumble, you command your angels concerning me, to guard me in all my ways. He is my refuge and my fortress, my trust is in you. You fill

Judging

Do you ever have scenarios running through your head where you are battling to win an argument or to come out tops in a situation? Do you find yourself preoccupied with thinking like this? A lot of people do, and they just put it down to a need to renew your mind. Well to a degree it is. But it is most likely linked to a judgement that needs to be removed. Judgement and forgiveness go hand in hand, we understand forgiveness, even though it can be hard. And to a degree we understand judgement, in that when we forgive

The public and the private

Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. (Luke 5:15, 16 NIV84) The ministry of Jesus, grew very quickly. It was without any form of campaign, no marketing, no email groups, no Facebook, no Twitter. People just got healed and told other people. I think our issue is we just don’t se people get healed in the same way that Jesus did. Even though he showed life as a man full of the Holy

What’s your measure?

Consider carefully what you hear, with the measure you use it will be measured to you. These are the words that Jesus highlights in red, He is emphasising something that we need to consider. The Jewish people put more weight on listening to others, the Rabbinic training had a large element of just being with a m ore senior Rabbi and listening to what he had to say. The people were used to listening, which sets them at an advantage and us at a disadvantage, because the western culture does not practice listening very well. We practice communicating our points

Holding on and letting go

Sometimes you need someone to say its ok. Sometimes you need to be allowed to let go, stop holding on. It is knowing when you should hold on and when you should let go and knowing the difference. I come back again and again to the verses in psalm 61, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. That I may cling to the rock, that I may hold on to the only thing that is secure. When all around is fading, when all around is growing dim, you are the lighthouse. In uncertain times you are sure,

One day

One day we will see him face to face, we will see the risen son, the lamb, the glorious one. The Almighty the Holy One, the Alpha and Omega, Jesus Christ, the perfect sacrifice, the pure spotless lamb with without blemish or defect. This is my friend, this is my beloved. The rock that I cling to, my high tower. My righteousness, my hope and my strength. My wisdom and my peace, my Lord and My God. I long for the day when I will be with Him, no more tears and no more pain. It’s not so far away,

Hidden from God

“My punishment is more than I can bear…… will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth” (Genesis 4:13, 14 NIV84) Cain is always thought of as an evil man who killed his brother. We forget that he loved the presence of God, and his greatest fear was to be hidden form Gods presence. I often wonder what it was like for Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel post garden. How did they interact with God, what was it like? How did god help them? We know they knew the presence of God but

His blood

Rev 1:5 To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood We have been freed from our sins by his blood. He saw us and loved us and acted to free us, before we even knew him, or knew right from wrong, He set us free by his blood. As we contemplate the depths of our sin and the heights of his holiness we appreciate the value of his blood, we realise the price that was paid. Everything has a value and we pay the price that we think something is worth. I am

Following men or God?

But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human? What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom

Chasing after riches…

Do not wear yourself out to become rich; be wise enough to restrain yourself. (Proverbs 23:4) There is a tingling, a glint of the eye, maybe if I just did this, if I just worked harder, if I trained as this, or that….maybe. The desire to be rich has led many people into error and caused them to stumble. Paul reminds Timothy But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of

The Spirit helps us in our weakness

Sometimes we don’t recognise our weakness. The first place to come to is to realise that we are weak. The second is to realise that we need help. The world tells us we can do all things in our own strength, that anything is possible, that we can overcome with mans strength. The bible tells us we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. There is a battle between the thinking of the world and the mind of God. As a believer, our minds are being renewed, turned from the earthly thinking, the futile thinking that we lived

Stuff

And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:15 ESV) There is stuff everywhere, stuff you need, want and must have. Houses, cars, phones and computers – glittering in the worlds light yet it fades as soon as you touch it. Yet there is a longing in us, we just haven’t figured out that stuff will never fit into it. The more we accumulate the more we have to worry about and look after – don’t get me wrong, I

The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you

The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you. Sometimes I’m not sure if I have that knowledge, in context Jesus was talking with his disciples about the farmer sowing seeds, he goes onto say ‘to others I speak in parables’. I want to hear the secrets of the kingdom of God in plain speech, though there is something intriguing about parables in the hunger it places in you, to hear clearly is a great pleasure. My wonder is, was Jesus statement just for the disciples, or is this for us too? I know

Every place that the sole of your feet shall tread I have given to you

Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. (Joshua 1:3 ESV) What I love about this verse is that the Lord has already given us the land. There is a tension of having been given the land, yet as Joshua went into the Land he had to fight to take it. The fight was with a certain victory. Israel never lost as long as they were walking with the Lord. Our relationship with him effects the victories we see. His desire is to give us the

For the Lord was with Him

Kansas city

On spending time at IHOP Kansas City and thought about the history of the place I realise that the prophetic foundation and the company of prophets that were established in the 80’s and later disbanded has not changed. There has been a metamorphous, but its essence has not changed. The charge of Mike Bickle in watching over the prophetic still stands. The house is still a prophetic house, there are just many, many more people here. It is a birthing place for prophets and prophetic messengers, an incubator for the things of heaven. Yet only one word of caution comes

The light of my salvation

Yet we have so much fear, and I can only associate that fear with darkness. For in the light of Jesus there is no fear.

Biblical knowing is experiential, it is not an academic thing. My desire is to know and to experience the love that surpasses knowledge. To be like David who was the man of one thing, who knew what it was to gaze on the beauty of the Lord. He was so captured by the glory and the presence of the Lord that he set up worship
