And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. (Ephesians 2:22 NIV)
It feels like a mystery, that God should dwell in us. That we should contain something of Him in our hearts. More so that as a people He is building us together and that His Spirit would dwell in us as a body. It realigns our thoughts of a personal walk with God to seeing it as corporate journey, we are together. We can grieve the Spirit on our own, but we can also grieve the Spirit corporately. The Spirit dwells in our hearts as individuals but He also dwells in us as a body. Through the networks of relationships he flows, or not, as the case might be.
It is the bonds of love that are the veins through which the Spirit of God flows, and it is hatred and dissension that brings the stroke or heart attack to the body. A blockage here or there, a faction with an opinion that causes destruction to the body. To control who you love is akin to the blocking of an artery through which the Holy Spirit would move and … Read More »
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (Matthew 4:1 NASB)
At the beginning of a new year I try to gather my thoughts, I pray for wisdom for the coming season, looking to see what he will do and his desires for my life. It is simplistic, but profound, but this can all be summed up with the basis of the ministry of Jesus.
Jesus was led by the Spirit. If I have any prayer this year it would be that I would be led by the Spirit. Led into truth, led into divine appointments, led to see his kingdom come.
Lord give me ears to hear and a heart of obedience to do all that you are showing me for this coming season.
We are more influenced by our culture than we think.
Small erosions in the landscape. And like a meandering river cuts it’s way through the valley and discards those bits that are superfluous so our culture discards those bits that are not relevant. Over time you notice the landscape change and wonder how it got there.
We are in a consumer culture. From the onset of Sunday trading to the 24hour stores. I remember as a child having to drive to a local petrol station to buy milk on a Sunday, the station owner had a small shop on the premises but he was viewed dimly by the local community for being open on Sunday, you now wouldn’t think twice and you would expect a shop to be open on Sunday.
The internet has grown in the last 15 years into a a stable and acceptable shopping destination. Now the choice is infinite, you choose. You find the right price from the right place. Everyone competing against each other to offer the right price and present what they have in the right way. Marketing is massive and if you don’t market your products you will be shutting up shop. “My punishment is more than I can bear…… will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth” (Genesis 4:13, 14 NIV84)
Cain is always thought of as an evil man who killed his brother. We forget that he loved the presence of God, and his greatest fear was to be hidden form Gods presence. I often wonder what it was like for Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel post garden. How did they interact with God, what was it like? How did god help them? We know they knew the presence of God but I wonder to degree? God provided clothes for them when they left Eden – how did he interact with them. W don’t know the answers but the presence of God must’ve been life changing – significant that to be outside of His presence was Cain’s greatest fear. He knew that without the presence of God he would be a restless wanderer. And that is what so many people are when they do not know the presence of God, restless wandered. Trying to find there place, trying to find where they fit in, restlessly wandering. Peace is under rated and it is … Read More »
