A simple equation

I like maths. So much so that I went to university to study it for three years. One of the basic rules of maths is that equations need to balance. Now there are a few equations in the bible, but there is one in particular that feels unbalanced, you can find it in 2 Corinthians 3v17. It says, as we contemplate the Lords glory we are transformed into his image with ever increasing glory. The equation is simple, we gaze on his glory = being transformed into His image. My problem is that it seems too easy. Maybe I have some issues with asceticism and need a revelation of grace? Or maybe that is his grace to me in this very promise and I just need to rest on his abundance given to me in this promise.

As I thought around this I realised that I can make things too hard. Jesus said that His yoke is easy and His burden is light, there are no hidden caveats in this promise. The reward of Christlikeness is not far away. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that this will happen in a few days or even weeks, it is a life time devotion. However, the focus is simple, gaze and contemplate on Him and you will be transformed. That which you set your eyes upon you become. Take some time and think about how you can contemplate the glory of the Lord, ask Him to show you a piece of scripture that will help you do this and and spend the rest of the day thinking on this one passage.

Lord, I thank you that you are good and kind and that your yoke is easy and your burden is light. Forgive me for where I have tried to make my salvation up with works, your grace is sufficient for me. Give me grace to contemplate your glory for I truly want to be transformed into your image. Amen
