When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.” John 19:26
The law required the firstborn son to take care of his parents, Jesus obeyed the law of God until the end. Early in His ministry Jesus emphasized His respect for the law:
It’s important for us to honor and love our parents, likewise, as the commandment reads: “Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God is giving you” (Exodus 20:12)
Even in his dying moments, Jesus is caring for others.
Sometimes in our suffering we can get caught up with ourselves. But that is not how our Lord, in the midst of pain and suffering He is thinking of others, He is still on mission.
In the midst of difficult times, take your eyes off of your situation and look around. Throughout the new testament there are many scriptures that talk about one-anothering. Love one another, be kind to one another, honour one another, there are at least 33 different ways you can look out for others. Be prayerful and ask the lord, ‘what can I do to reach out to my community? I know many people already are, and there are one amazing things going on but in a time such as this people’s hearts are open more than ever and an opportunity to share the love of Christ.
Do you feel weak? Then ask the lord to fill you with His Holy Spirit, for it is the Holy Spirit who empowers us to go. It is the Holy Spirt who helps us, if you look through the word you can’t help but see that an encounter with God resulted in mission, in going out.
As Jesus finishes His mission, He is still reaching out, even in is dying moments. So let’s again fix our eyes on him. Love your family, love your communities, be filled with the Spirit.
